A number of people�most recently a student from Malaysia�have asked how to cite a blog post. Generally, I think this should do it: For APA style: Last name of author, first initial. (Date of publication�year, month, day). Title of blog post. [Web log post]. Retrieved from Blog URL. So, if you were citing a recent post from my own blog, it would look like this: DeVito, J. (2013 April 30). Interviewing exercise. [Web log post]. Retrieved from htpp://tcbdevito.blogspot.com. Another style manual does it a little differently: DeVito, J. (2013, April 30). Interviewing exercise. Retrieved from http://tcbdevito.blogspot.com. For MLA Style: Author�s last name, first name initial. Title of post. Title of blog. Date post was written. Responding to Rudeness

Here's an interesting article that offers interesting suggestions for Responding to Rudeness which should work well in a class in the discussion of conversation or a variety of other interpersonal topics. Among the suggestions offered are how to respond to catcalls, unwanted and negative comments on your appearance, or friends who reveal personal information. It would be interesting to see how students would deal with each of these several issues and if there's a gender or age difference in the responses.

Nonverbal Communication Project

Here is exercise that I'm working on for a nonverbal book I'm doing that I thought might be useful. It contains just a few general instructions for creating a video and lots of video examples. Although most clearly directed at the nonverbal course, I thought this might also be appropriate in interpersonal and hybrid courses as well. The videos noted here might also prove useful to interject periodically throughout a course in nonverbal/interpersonal/human communication. Creating a Video of Nonverbal Communication An excellent experience for learning about nonverbal communication is to teach it. Consequently, a popular assignment in many nonverbal communication courses is to create a video to teach some aspect of nonverbal communication. You might then upload it to YouTube or some similar site, exchange videos with others, and critique each other�s videos. This discussion of prosocial communication is a preliminary version of a section I'm considering adding to the new edition of The Interpersonal Communication Book . It would be the final section of the last chapter. I'd be very interested in hearing what you think of this section. Any comments, positive or negative, will be greatly appreciated. Prosocial Communication In Chapter 10 we looked at the dark side of interpersonal relationships (jealousy and relationship violence) and, in this chapter, we looked at the misuses of power (sexual harassment, bullying, and power plays), other �dark� sides. Facebookers Narcissists?

Here's a brief article from the NYTimes which reports on Lynne Kelly's research into narcissism and Facebook use. According to Kelly's findings, Facebook use is not associated with narcissism.
